The situation in Balochistan, Pakistan, has taken a grim turn as four mutilated bodies of individuals forcibly disappeared by Pakistani military forces have been recovered over the past 24 hours. Mahrang Baloch, a prominent Baloch activist, has raised serious concerns about this alarming trend, urging human rights organizations to take immediate action.
Mahrang Baloch shared her distress on X, stating that two bodies were found in Awaran, identified as Faqir Jan and Essa Baloch. Faqir Jan was forcibly taken from his home by the military on September 26th, while Essa had disappeared in February 2023. Two more mutilated bodies, identified as Abid Hussain and Masti Khan, residents of Zehri, were recovered from the Khuzdar area today. Both individuals had been forcibly disappeared by the Pakistani military back in 2017.
Adding to the growing horror, Mahrang Baloch also revealed that the mutilated body of Bashir Ahmed, who had been forcibly taken from Gwadar, was recently recovered. This incident is particularly disturbing as security forces had previously acknowledged his arrest. The recovery of Israr Baloch's mutilated body in Turbat just days ago further compounds the tragedy.
Baloch strongly condemned the actions of the Pakistani military, stating on X: "Human rights organizations must take immediate notice of this grave issue. The Pakistani military is killing forcibly disappeared individuals and discarding their mutilated bodies." Her message resonates with the growing fear and despair felt by many in Balochistan.
The human rights wing of the Baloch National Movement, Paank, has echoed these sentiments, denouncing the extrajudicial killings of Faqeer Jan and Asa Baloch in Awaran district. They highlighted that both individuals were killed after months of enforced disappearance, following their abduction by Pakistani forces. Paank stressed that these actions constitute blatant violations of human rights and international law, demanding an immediate and transparent investigation into the killings.
Paank's call for justice underscores the urgent need for accountability in Balochistan. The international community must also pay attention to this escalating crisis, ensuring that the voices of those suffering under these oppressive practices are heard and their rights are protected.
