Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took a significant step forward for the state's cricket infrastructure by laying the foundation stone for a new International Cricket Stadium in Tumakuru on Monday.
The ceremony, held in the town located about 60 kilometers north of Bengaluru, marked the beginning of a project that promises to boost both the district's development and Karnataka's cricketing scene.
Speaking at the event, CM Siddaramaiah underscored the importance of this investment in Tumakuru. He stated that the allocation of 50 acres of land to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for the stadium's construction will significantly contribute to the district's economic growth and development.
The Chief Minister emphasized the urgency of completing the project, urging officials to expedite the construction process to fulfill the expectations of cricket enthusiasts in the region. This sentiment was echoed by KSCA President Raghuram Bhat, who expressed his gratitude for the government's support and commitment to developing cricket infrastructure across Karnataka.
CM Siddaramaiah also assured the KSCA that land would be allocated for a cricket stadium in Mysuru, fulfilling another request from the association. This announcement further highlights the state government's dedication to promoting sports development throughout Karnataka.
The new stadium is estimated to cost Rs 150 crore and is expected to be completed within two years. Once operational, it will join Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru as a venue for international cricket matches, providing a boost to the state's cricketing calendar and potentially attracting major tournaments.
The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Home Minister and Tumakuru district in-charge G Parameshwara, Cooperation Minister KN Rajanna, Rural Development Minister Priyank Kharge, state’s Delhi representative TB Jayachandra, district MLAs, and other officials.
This landmark project signifies a significant step forward for Karnataka's sporting landscape. The new International Cricket Stadium in Tumakuru is poised to become a hub for cricketing activity, attracting both national and international attention and contributing to the economic development of the region.
