Former Indian cricket stars Harbhajan Singh and Ishant Sharma recently reminisced about their experiences in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series against Australia, highlighting the immense challenge posed by the Aussie team.
The BGT series is a fiercely contested battle between India and Australia, known for its high stakes and intense competition. Harbhajan and Ishant, both veterans of numerous encounters with Australia, emphasized the need to raise one's game when facing such a formidable opponent.
"It was our job. We were playing to win against Australia. You get to know how good of a player you are when you play against a bigger team like Australia, and Australia was a very good team. They were the number one team," Harbhajan stated in a release by Star Sports.
He continued, "If you want to know your capabilities, you have to play against the best. That's what we did. We tried. We tried and stayed determined. Whenever we played against Australia, we had to put in some extra effort. Because they were a very good team."
Ishant Sharma echoed Harbhajan's sentiments, emphasizing that playing against a dominant side like Australia demands a heightened level of commitment and focus. "If you play against a team that is dominant in world cricket, you have to put in some extra effort. When I went there for the first time, I didn't have any idea. I used to just bowl. I just focused on doing the simple things," Ishant recalled.
The recent BGT series has seen India stage a remarkable comeback after a disappointing series against New Zealand at home. In the first Test of the series against Australia, India stunned their opponents with a convincing 295-run victory in Perth, despite a shaky start to their innings.
The second Test of the series is scheduled to commence on December 6th, and both teams are gearing up for an intense battle. India's success against Australia serves as a testament to their determination and ability to rise to the occasion against top-ranked opponents.
